The Endocrine System & It's Hormones

Objective 10: Different Classes of Hormones
Objective 13 & 14: Gonadal Hormones  and Their Functions;  Location, Histology and Hormonesof the: Thyroid, Parathyroid Glands, Ovaries and Testes, Pineal and Adrenal Glands.
Location of endocrine organs in the human body
Thyroid Gland: found in the throat, is the bow tie on my mascarade face. It's job is to produce thyroid hormone and calcitonin.  Calcitonin's job is to  lower calcium levels in the blood. Thyroid hormone has many different effects on the body. Here is a chart from my book that I used to study by to know its different effects:
Major Effects of Thyroid Hormone

Parathyroid Glands- four little yellow dots on the back of the bow tie (thyroid). Their job is to produce Parathyroid Hormone (PTH). PTH is like the cheif of the calcium control in the blood. If too much calcium is in the blood  it will stop being produced but if there is too little calciun in th eblood then it will go back to work. it's important in our homestactic balance because it  plays a role in our nerve impulses, muscle comtractions, and how we clot our blood. It mainly effects our kidneys, intestine and our bones. which makes sence considering how we need calcium to make our bone grow.

Stressed??? yes me tooo!!!!
Well we are blessed to have our adrenal gland. I think mine is over used. Our adrenal gland is what helps us deal with stress. Our adrenal glands are found on top of our kidneys. They look like little pyramids. it has two parts which funcion as two separate organs. Here is a chart from my book that I used as a study guide that describes their different hormones and functions:

Pine cones...... Where??????
In our brain. Our pineal gland is shaped like a pine cone and hangs from the deincephalon in our brains. Experts are still uncertain exactly what this glands function actually is. It's only major function that has been found is that it secrtetes melatonin.

Time to Get Sexy With Our Hormones........
The Gonads: found in both men a women- produce the same hormones as the adrenal cortical but their amount is different.

In women- the ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone. They are found in the abdominal cavity.

Testes: found in males, produce testosterone.
